"Dreams of Apollo"
Apollo (god of light and dreams and art and leader of the Muses) was forbidden birth on water, earth,
or in the heavens and so he comes from Nowhere. What this means for a painter (whose real subjects are
light and dreams and art) is that the longer and harder and further he searches the less he finds.
Instead, his true source, as with Apollo's dreams, is Nowhere. If he looks there he will instantly find
an endless harvest.
Welcome to the preview website for this exhibition of 16 paintings by Neil Taylor at Wagner Art Gallery, Sydney.
The paintings on show are from a new series loosely titled "Creation". They explore the notion of landscape as a symbol of the birth or growth of reality. The subjects are either nocturnes, where the scene is dramatically revealed from the darkness, or "creation dreams" where the subject exists as the result of basic elemental combinations - stars and water, dawn and sandstone, mist and light, desert and cosmos and so on. Sometimes they are a combination of both.
This exhibition continues until Thurs. 29th March. It also includes new work by Sydney artist Mike Worrall.
